Canadian Education System

Overview

They are known as “systems” of education because each province and territory in Canada has exclusive responsibility for elementary, secondary, and post-secondary education within its borders. There is no national department of education; however, there are national mechanisms to facilitate recognition and transferability of course credits and credentials.

Each Canadian province and territory has its own quality assurance mechanisms to ensure high educational standards are met.

The admission into a College or University of a local student takes into account school performance, extra-curricular activities and involvement with the community.

Admission for International Students

According to the Canadian government, if you are not a Canadian citizen and the main reason to come to Canada is to study you must be accepted by a School, College or University.

For an international student to be admitted into a College or University a language level test will be required and it will vary between institutions (TOEFL or IELTS), and for MBAs, a GMAT or SAT will be required.

After you have been accepted by an Education Institution you can apply for a study permit.

Tuition Fees

College programs are often less expensive than university studies.
Tuition fees vary depending on the program and location you choose. Most institutions require payment at the beginning of each semester and not on a monthly basis.

We can present to you high-quality colleges and vocational schools throughout Canada, including smaller cities and towns where the cost of living is lower. Even Canada’s larger cities are relatively more affordable than many cities around the world.

Work and Study

Some programs include work-integrated learning, which may earn you an income while you are studying.

Some eligible graduates are allowed to work full-time for up to three years, after graduation, increasing their chances to become a permanent resident in Canada.

The School Year in Canada

In Canada, a semester is also called “term”, has four months length, and might varies according to the program chosen by the student.

For many courses, the main start term is Fall that starts in September and finishes in December.

Visa and Permits

The study permit is a document issued by the Government of Canada that allows foreign nationals to study in Canada. In order to get a Canadian visa, the student must primarily be accepted by a Canadian institution.

The student must also present sufficient evidence that he or she can afford to pay study costs as well as living expenses. Background checks and health examinations are also required.

A study permit is not a visa. It doesn’t let you enter Canada. When the Canadian Goverment approves your study permit, they also issue a visa to you with your study permit.
